Arrivals to Brussels

Thursday 13 October is the day on which all participants will travel to Brussels. Two IGLYO team members will be present throughout the day at the hostel (check your Participant Info Pack for the exact address) to welcome you and guide you to your rooms.

There is no session planned on that day, aside from dinner at 19:00 at the hostel, so do feel free to explore Brussels and have a look at our Social Activities recommendations in the "LGBTQI Social Activities in Brussels" menu tab of this event.

If you arrive at the hostel earlier than the check in time (15:00), you'll be able to store your baggage for free in a room, or at extra cost in lockers (1€/hour for a small locker, 1.5€/hour for a large one — bring your own padlock).

Optional Social Activities [Expand for recommendations]

Outside the social activities included in the AMC programme, we warmly encourage you to explore Brussels' social scene and nightlife by yourselves. Brussels is a vibrant city with a lot of varied activities going on in the LGBTQI community. With this in mind, we have compiled a selection of recommended LGBTQI events, cabarets, bars and parties happening on 13-17 October 2022. Some might require pre-booking, so make sure to check in advance!

You can check our list of recommendations in the "LGBTQI Social Activities in Brussels" tab of this Glue Up event. We will add to the list if more LGBTQI activities come up closer to the AMC.

Please note that these social activities are optional recommendations and are completely independent of the AMC. IGLYO is therefore not responsible for booking, and cannot cover expenses related to your social activities.

Breakfast at the hostel

Breakfast will be served every morning at the hostel. Breakfast is available from 06:30 to 10:30. However, we recommend eating early (07:30) as the time to travel from the hostel to the venue takes about 35-45 minutes.

Statutory Workshop
Karo Börner

The Governance Reform Working Group (GRWG), mandated by the General Assembly 2021, was created in March 2022 to oversee the process of IGLYO's governance reform.

Working through online and physical meetings, the GRWG carried out the beginning of the process of the governance reform, with the most important step being the update of the IGLYO’s Statutes.
The GRWG has put forward a series of important changes to be made to IGLYO’s Statutes, along with a document showing the changes the GRWG has proposed, with a brief reasoning for each change (see Board Motion document below.

During the several Statutory Workshop sessions, we will review and discuss all the proposed changes to the Statutes. As a preparation, you can already have a look at Documents 4, 4.1 and 4.2.

Member-led Community Workshops [Expand for themes]
Hrefna Ósk MaríudóttirAkos ModoloAnđela Čeh

In this first round of Workshops, three of our Member Organisation will hold workshops to provide you with skills on topics that are close to their heart. You will have the possibility to choose among three workshops when collecting your badge on the first day:

🕑 (Self)Care: How do we care about ourselves and each other? by EGAL [RS]
We are witnessing, living and working in challenging and ever-changing environments; while we are chasing around to address constantly emerging obstacles, we sometimes tend to forget how valuable self-care is activism and how we should pay more attention to it - to be better to ourselves and the communities and causes we are serving. This psychodrama workshop is designed to make a group of activists work together to rethink and re-evaluate their attitudes and practices of taking care of themselves and their communities. We will tackle personal goals and boundaries, as well as personal, community-based, social, local and global resilience. During the workshop, we will strive to jointly seek solutions of how to be more mindful of ourselves and our needs, and how to invest in the our communities in a more efficient way. Psychodrama is a safe and brave open floor for exploration of our attitudes, practices and needs and awaits you all!

🕑 BDSM: An orientation by Queer Student Association of Iceland [ISL]
Together we will explore the basics of BDSM and how it can be safely experienced. We will look into the wide array of fetishes and discuss common misconceptions about BDSM and the people who do it. Furthermore, we will explore if BDSM can be categorised as an orientation in and of itself and, in addition, if BDSM belongs under the queer umbrella.

🕑 Fighting right-wing populism as LGBTQI activists in Hungary by Szimpozion Association [HU]
In this workshop, we will learn about the recent history and the current situation of Hungarian LGBTQI activism. Participants will then be presented concrete scenarios of challenges faced by the Hungarian LGBTQI activist community in recent years, in this way they will learn about the practical side of fighting anti-LGBTQI right-wing populism. Through the concrete scenarios, participants will learn possible tools and methods on how to fight right-wing populism and have the opportunity to compare the Hungarian / Eastern European situation with their respective countries. They will also get more familiar with the challenges of the Hungarian and Eastern European LGBTQI activist community.

Member-led Community Workshops [Expand for themes]
Ralu BaciuTarin Tani BasharAna Lopes

In this second round of Workshops, three of our Member Organisation will hold workshops to provide you with skills on topics that are close to their heart. You will have the possibility to choose among three workshops when collecting your badge on the first day:

➡️ Being queer and neurodivergent: Understanding ADHD and Autism in queer communities by IGLYO Board Co-Chair Ralu Baciu
Despite the intersectionality between queerness and neurodivergency is very common, there isn't much discourse on the issues and needs of this community. Ralu's wish is to bring this conversation within the queer spaces with an interractive workshop, both to educate and to create a safe space for those within the queer and neurodivergent community.

➡️ Problem Solving Skills and Strategic Thinking by Rede Ex Aequo [PT]
Through group work, participants will learn ways to solve issues within their organisations, by finding the corresponding root causes. Problem solving methods will be discussed and participants will have the opportunity to share the presented methods once they return to their NGOs.

➡️ Virtual Pride: Way of Visibility within Conservative Societies (Online) by Inclusive Bangladesh [UK]
The aim of this workshop is to deliver new insights of virtual pride that can be used as a tool to promote LGBTIQ+ rights, equality and visibility within a religious or socially conservative societies where LGBTIQ+ identities are not recognised.
